How to Style Tape Ins

So, you’ve just got some tape-ins installed? Great idea! But, you’re not sure how to keep the style looking voluminous, or you’re bored of wearing the same style. Tape-ins can require skill when styling, so we get that achieving your desired look can sometimes seem a little out of reach. We got you! In this article, we’ll tell you exactly how to style your tape-ins and the versatility that comes with them, while keeping them looking fresh until your next appointment!

Before Styling:

Brushing and Dentangling Your Tape-Ins:

Before styling, it’s vital never to brush with too much force or tug at extensions, as this can cause them to become loose. The hairbrush you use will play a big part in your styling regime, so make sure you have one specifically designed for hair extensions to ensure that they last as long as possible. For textured extensions, make sure to keep the hair as hydrated and detangled as possible at all times with a wide-tooth comb or a brush for textured hair. Remember to use heat sparingly, since the texture is similar to your own hair, and can damage easily. Make sure to ease up on the oil on your scalp and hair to make sure the tape-ins don’t slip.

Possible Hairstyles with Tape-Ins:

Beach Waves:

Who doesn’t love beachy wave type curls? These curls can be worn for pretty much any occasion; a night out, work, school, you name it! This is probably one of the easier hairstyles to create with tape in extensions, but there’s definitely an art to it. If you have textured tape-ins, you can try a braid out or twist out to achieve these types of curls. For even more bouncy curls, you could try blow drying your hair beforehand and doing plaits like you would for a traditional braid out or twist out.

For more Shirley Temple ringlet type curls you can use a skinny flat iron or a curling iron. Make sure to use a heat protectant to prevent heat damage! Separate your hair into sections and use the iron an inch or two from the roots. Rotate the iron and move it down the length of your hair. For tighter curls, hold the iron vertically and move down your hair slowly, for looser curls, hold the iron horizontally and move down the hair more quickly. Do this to your whole head, and you have cute ringlet curls! A sophisticated look, old Hollywood type look that’ll make you look effortlessly glamorous!

Slick Ponytail:

Our top tip on achieving a seamless ponytail with tape in extensions comes down to the placement of the extensions during the installation. If you’re going to want to do ponytails while your tape-ins are installed, make sure to let your stylist know beforehand so they can install them accordingly. As far as styling, you’ll want to do a medium to low ponytail so that the tapes lay flat against your head and are completely undetectable. A cute way to do this is to do a twisted look. Secure your locks into a low or medium ponytail, leaving two sections out from either front side of your hair. Take one section and wrap around the base of your ponytail, bobby pin in place and repeat on the other side. These pieces not only conceal your hair elastic, but also easily hide any tapes that are showing! If so, use your fingers to carefully pull and maneuver the hair to cover the tapes. That’s it! Now you have a cute ponytail and won’t have to worry about your tapes showing. You can adjust your edges with a brush and some edge control to make sure the ponytail is slick.

Braided Updo:

If you want something a little more professional, cute, and quick you should try this style. Tie your hair back into a low ponytail, create a three strand braid with an elastic, then roll and twist the braid  to create a bun and bobby it into place. That was easy! Now you have a more fun and neat version of a messy bun. A more  elevated and professional style you can wear to work or any fancy event to keep your hair out of your face while still looking put together.
